May is a booming month for job seekers, as recent college graduates begin searching for full-time positions, plus teenagers looking for summer jobs.

According to Julie Bruce, Sales Manager with SavannahJobs.com, there has been an increase recently in job postings in the Savannah area.

“Many employers in the area are adding additional staff for the summer and have decided to host job fairs,” Bruce said. “I would say this is a busy time of the year for both job seekers and employers.”

Founded in 2000, SavannahJobs.com was the first web-based job board in the area. With an average of 40,000 views a month, employers are able to reach a large applicant pool.

Bruce said hospitality, healthcare and manufacturing jobs are the most popular in the Savannah region. She also noted that the Savannah Port Authority is a growing source of job opportunities and is projected to increase as the port undergoes expansion.

Beginning a job search online and through the use of social media -- Facebook, Twitter and LinkedIn -- is becoming popular especially with recent college graduates and teenagers looking for employment.

“It is definitely something I think we will see more of in the future especially with the younger generation that is already accustomed to using these outlets for communication,” Bruce said.

“Ease of use is also a big attraction. It is so simple for a job seeker to go to our (SavannahJobs.com) Twitter account and view the job posts," she said. "The links on the feed will route them to the ad they can either apply or share it with a friend.”

Bruce explains that positions posted on the SavannahJobs.com website are automatically populated on national job sites including Indeed and Simply Hired.

“We are a ‘one stop shopping’ hiring solution,” Bruce noted. “This system is a benefit to employers because it allows for a greater number of people to view their jobs advertisement at no additional cost to them. We want to attract local candidates but there may be very qualified individuals in another state who are planning to relocate and may not be aware of SavannahJobs.com yet they will be checking national sites.”
