Senior Citizens, Inc., a nonprofit dedicated to enhancing the quality of life for area seniors, today honored the 2020 recipients of the Legends, Leaders, and Life Well Lived Award with a drive-by celebration and awards ceremony. The recipients, selected at the beginning of March, are all people who have contributed significantly to their communities, who inspire others by the difference they have made, and who best exemplify a life well lived.

The 2020 honorees included:

  • Eric Meyerhoff

Imagine Savannah without its iconic waterfront. It would have been a very real possibility, had it not been for Eric Meyerhoff, one of Savannah’s signature architects, and his business partner, Bob Gunn. Meyerhoff contributed to Savannah’s revitalization across many decades.

  • Arnold Tenenbaum

Savannah businessman and philanthropist Arnold Tenenbaum was known for many things: his business acumen, his advocacy for the community, and his support of the arts and education. He was a true servant-leader and an ardent supporter of all segments of Savannah’s community.

  • Delores J. Washington

As an educator, Delores J. Washington challenged students to be great and to actualize their full potential. In retirement, she has continued advocating for school resources, higher teacher compensation, and the needs of the state’s public school youth.

A virtual watch party of the awards ceremony will air on Thursday, October 1, at 5:30 p.m. at seniorcitizensinc.org/legends. Funds raised will benefit all of SCI’s programs, including Meals on Wheels, Adult Day Health, and The Learning Center.

“While we were saddened to lose Mr. Tenenbaum and Mr. Meyerhoff earlier this year and to have to postpone our in-person celebration due to COVID-19, upon further reflection, I can’t think of a better time than the middle of a pandemic to celebrate and learn from our three honorees,” said Patti Lyons, president of SCI. “These older adults are really the building blocks of our community and we have so many lessons that can be gleaned from their lives well lived.”

Sponsors of the event included Kole Management Company, Queensborough National Bank and Trust, and Philip and Cathy Solomons (Life Well Lived Sponsors), The Critz Family, Georgia Power, and Gulfstream Aerospace Corp. (Legends Sponsors), Ambos Seafoods, Harmony at Savannah, South State Bank, and Sterling Seacrest Partners (Leader Sponsors), BankSouth (Laureate Sponsor), and Savannah Morning News and Savannah Magazine (Media Sponsors).
