Hilton Head Awaits State Decision on Uber Ridesharing Service

The Town of Hilton Head Island will hold off on regulating Uber until state lawmakers either quash the ride-sharing service until next year or pass a bill allowing it to continue.

While it is illegal for Uber drivers to operate without business licenses, the town has no plans to search for violators or restrict the number of drivers on the road, as some other South Carolina cities have done, town finance director Susan Simmons said.
