Telfair Museums Honors Military Community Through Veterans Day

Press release from the issuing company

Friday, May 29th, 2015

As summer kicks off, Telfair Museums reminds military personnel and their families that it offers them free admission, thanks to the generosity of the Fifth Third Bank (Georgia).  Provided through Veterans Day 2015, free admission is available to all veterans and active-duty service members as well as those in the Reserves.  Eligible personnel and families may visit the Jepson Center and Telfair Academy, both located on Telfair Square, without charge; the Owens Thomas House is not included in the free admission program.

The Fifth Third Bank’s support expands the museum’s commitment to military and their families in addition with Telfair Museums’ annual participation in the Blue Star Museums program. This collaboration among the National Endowment for the Arts, Blue Star Families, the Department of Defense, and more than 2,000 museums across America, offers free admission to the nation’s active duty military personnel including National Guard and Reserve and their families from Memorial Day through Labor Day each year.

“With this outstanding support from Fifth Third Bank and the Blue Star Museums program, we honor and thank military personnel and their families for the tireless commitment and service that they give to our country and community,” said Lisa Grove, director and CEO of Telfair Museums. “We also are proud to provide them an opportunity to learn more about Telfair’s world-class art exhibitions and our renowned historic homes.”

Current attractions at the Jepson Center include:

• Several paintings by Winston Churchill in addition to photographs, letters and other personal belongings on loan from his descendants. As part of the exhibit, Telfair Museums has teamed up with the National Museum of the Mighty Eighth Air Force and other partners.

Upcoming attractions at the Jepson Center include:

• An exhibition that celebrates and explores the alternative culture of art of the 90s.

• A major event showcasing the legendary French painter Claude Monet, displayed alongside America’s own Impressionist painters.

Current attractions at the Telfair Academy include:

• A unique display of objects dedicated to the world of drinking. This exhibition features items from Telfair Museums’ permanent collection.

• An exhibition that showcases female artists who played a crucial role in the artistic life of Savannah.

Telfair Museums also offers monthly events for infants and preschoolers and has the city’s only indoor, interactive children’s art museum in Savannah.
