Staff Report From Savannah CEO
Wednesday, July 1st, 2015
The Magnolia Park Neighborhood Association and MBF Neighborhood Pool are preparing again for the traditional 4th of July parade, one of the annual staples for the midtown neighborhood, which has seen a large influx of new residents buying into the family friendly, walkable neighborhood, over the past 12 months.
Being one of active neighborhood organizations in Savannah, Magnolia Park will put on their neighborhood parade on 4th of July starting at 11 AM. (Parade route and info flyer enclosed.)
The parade route will depart from the corner of Forsyth Street and Woodland Drive, and make its way through the neighborhood street and end up at the MBF Neighborhood Pool for the picnic, 4th of July BBQ and swimming. The BBQ and entrance to the pool is free for Magnolia Park Neighborhood association members and MPF pool members, guests are welcome with a $5.00 fee to set off costs.
“The annual Magnolia Park 4th of July Neighborhood Parade is a cherished tradition, which brings out residents and their families to participate on bikes, in golf-carts, on scooters and anything “that rolls”, decorated in red – white and blue to honor our nations birthday,” said Don Consos, MPNA president. - He continued: “We welcome all our neighbors, their friends and families to participate in this fun event and cheer on the parade along their way.”
The parade started in 2007 under the then MPNA president Carolyn Fountain, and was continued ever since. ”The event encourages homeowners to raise their flags, city officials and first responders to join the neighbors and celebrate the UNITED STATES of AMERICA on this beautiful day.”- Carolyn Fountain It is an event to encourage homeowners to flag their flags, to invite city officials and first responders to join us on our turf and to celebrate the honor and privilege of being citizens of THE UNITED STATES OF AMERICA.. BE A PART OF THIS GREAT TRADATION AND JOIN THE PARADE THIS YEAR." Celebration was held.
Sponsored by MPNA under the presidency of Carolyn Fountain, The idea was born because the holiday fell on a Wednesday and not on a week end.
Locale leaders, first responders and those running for Election attended the gathering at the pool to enjoy hot dogs, hamburgers and fellowship.
Residents decorated their golf carts, bikes, scooters, etc. in Red, white and Blue…marching through the neighborhood and ending at Magnolia Park / Bacon Park pool. The tradition of Pledging the Flag of the USA, and having a Prayer was begun. The event continued during the next three years under Carolyn’s reign as President of the organization. When Ron Webber assumed the office he continued the annual event as it had become very popular and enjoyed by the residents.
After Ron’s tenure President Donald Consos has kept the tradition going and it has become a special time of bonding with neighbors, introducing new comers to the neighborhood and sharing time between the MPNA Members and Pool members. It is an event to encourage homeowners to flag their flags, to invite city officials and first responders to join us on our turf and to celebrate the honor and privilege of being citizens of THE UNITED STATES OF AMERICA..
The MPNA is contributing largely to bring neighbors together by organizing events like the 4th of July parade for the residents of the area.
