Armstrong State University to Host Latino Heritage Month Celebration Sept. 15th Through Oct. 15th

Armstrong State University will celebrate Latino Heritage Month from Thursday, Sept. 15 through Saturday, Oct. 15, in connection with the national celebration, which promotes Latino heritage and culture.
Armstrong’s Hispanic Outreach and Leadership at Armstrong program has organized nearly 30 events for this year’s celebration, which will take place on Armstrong’s main campus at 11935 Abercorn St., the Armstrong Liberty Center at 175 W. Memorial Drive in Hinesville and various downtown Savannah locations. All events are free and open to the public.

Fiesta Day
Residential Plaza/Savannah campus
Join the Office of Multicultural Affairs and HOLA for the annual Fiesta Day! Enjoy authentic Latin American food, music and performances.
Monday, September 19: 12-1 p.m.
Passport to Latin America
Armstrong Liberty Center Student Commons/Hinesville
Step into the world of four Latin American countries with food, music, fun facts and much more. Join the Office of Multicultural Affairs and the Liberty Center for an afternoon of cultural enrichment.
Tuesday, September 20: 6 p.m.
Flamenco Dance Lesson
Student Recreational Center Group Workout Studio/Savannah campus
Want to dance flamenco? Join Salsa Savannah and HOLA Club for a free flamenco lesson.
Tuesday, October 4: Noon-2 p.m.
The Impact of Rhetoric on Latino Civic Engagement Forum
Ogeechee Theater/Savannah Campus
HOLA will host Jerry Gonzalez of the Georgia Association of Latino Elected Officials, as well as Brenda Lopez, the first Latina to be elected into the Georgia House of Representatives.

A Celebration of Education and Culture Cocktail Reception
Beach Institute/502 E. Harris St., Savannah
Join us for a festive evening hosted by Armstrong's Office of Multicultural Affairs in partnership with BB&T Bank. Guest speaker Jerry Gonzalez, executive director of Georgia Association of Latino Elected Officials, will highlight the importance of education within the Latino community in Georgia and recognize the accomplishments of Latino students at Armstrong. Enjoy Latino-inspired appetizers, complimentary wine and live music performed by Son del Coqui.

Frida Kahlo in the XXI Century Lecture
Ogeechee Theater/Savannah Campus
Join us as Dr. Oswaldo Estrada from UNC-Chapel Hill discusses the transformation of Frida Khalo in XXI century Mexican culture and literature. The lecture will include references to paintings and film.
Other events include Brown Bag Series lunches with Spanish-speaking faculty and staff, a Spanish Film Club series and much more.
