Famed Composer, ATC Judge to Visit St. Andrew's

WHAT: Approximately 35 students from Savannah’s St. Andrews’s School are thrilled to meet Andrew Lippa and hear him perform at the American Traditions Vocal Competition on the evening of Monday Feb. 20.  St. Andrew’s School students are rehearsing their February school production of The Addams Family - a musical comedy with music and lyrics written by one of the three 2017 ATC judges - Andrew Lippa. The cast and choral students from St. Andrew’s School will have the opportunity to participate in a “Talk Back” with Lippa following the Judges Concert.  A few days after this experience the students will perform The Addams Family in Skinner Hall on the St. Andrew's School campus on Friday, February 24 - 7:30pm, Saturday, February 25 - 3:00pm and 7:30pm and Sunday, February 26 - 3:00pm Tickets are $15.00 for adults and $10.00 for students (age 1-17) at the door. St. Andrew’s School is an independent college preparatory school on Wilmington Island dedicated to personalized student development with a strong tradition of music and drama.

The American Traditions Vocal Competition will kick-off their 2017 season with the ATC Judges Concert. For the first time audiences will enjoy performances by all three judges during a dazzling evening celebrating classic American music. The talented judges include Tony-nominated composer Andrew Lippa*, Grammy award-winner Sylvia McNair, and returning judge Kurt Ollmann.

Andrew Lippa wrote the Tony-nominated music and lyrics for the Broadway musical “The Addams Family” as well as the music and lyrics for numerous other productions including “The Social Network,” “A Few Good Men,” “Big Fish,” “The Farnsworth Invention,” and Outer Critics Circle Award-winning “The Wild Party.” Lippa has also won the Drama Desk Award for best music in addition to the Outer Critics Circle Award for best Off-Broadway musical. The accomplished singer is proud to have been the music director for Kristin Chenoweth for many of her concerts since 1999 and has conducted the San Francisco, Chicago, and St. Louis Symphony Orchestras, among others, for Chenoweth. His recordings include Julia Murney’s “I’m Not Waiting,” “The Wild Party,” “You’re a Good Man, Charlie Brown” which earned him a Grammy Award nomination, “A Little Princess,” and many more. Lippa, who serves on the council of The Dramatists Guild, is thrilled to participate as a judge for the 2017 ATC.
