Ogeechee Riverkeeper is slated to kick off its 2017 paddle trip season with a six-mile paddle on the beautiful Canoochee River on Saturday, March 25, 2017 with the tour group meeting at 9 a.m. The put-in location is on Daisy Nevils Highway, two miles north of the intersection with U.S. Highway 280 in Claxton. The trip is anticipated to last until mid-afternoon with a break for lunch.

Paddlers will enjoy a tour down the Canoochee whose winding blackwater creates both a serene and challenging course for paddlers. Luke Roberson, Ogeechee Riverkeeper’s outreach and water quality specialist, will lead this trip. Participants should bring lunch/snacks, water bottle(s), sunscreen, hat, sunglasses, water shoes or old tennis shoes (flip-flops and sandals are not recommended), and a dry bag or way to store your personal items.

This course’s difficulty ranking is beginner to intermediate. Children 12 years and younger should be accompanied by an experienced paddler. Please contact the Ogeechee Riverkeeper office if you are unsure if you should bring your child.
