Savannah Fashion Designer Launches Spring 2017 Mamie Ruth Collection for Belk
Staff Report From Savannah CEO
Friday, March 3rd, 2017
Local Savannah fashion designer and small-business owner Emily Bargeron will be launching her exclusively curated Mamie Ruth collection for Belk stores starting March 9, 2017 and throughout the Spring 2017 season.
The public is invited to celebrate at the Mamie Ruth + Belk Launch Party on March 9 from 5-8:30pm at Belk’s Savannah location (7804 Abercorn Street). Media and student interviews welcome.
Bargeron is one of four winners of Belk’s 2016 Southern Designer Showcase, an annual competition dedicated to the acquisition of new talent representative of “Modern. Southern. Style.” Emily believes that her unique interpretation of southern style is what set her apart in the competition.
She commented, “Southern style is often stereotyped as very preppy and uniform. Mamie Ruth is designed to have a free-spirited feel and an overall vibe that reflects the (sometimes) forgotten, soulful side of the south. The brand paints a bigger picture of how the south identifies itself on a national level, rather than a limited regional view.”
Winners of the competition participate in a year-long product development experience to learn Belk’s production process from start to finish. At the culmination of the process, each designer’s line premieres in select Belk stores throughout the southeast as well as online.
The Mamie Ruth line will be available in nine Belk locations and will encompass women’s graphic t-shirts with quirky and witty quips, as well as bohemian-inspired tops, skirts, dresses, and shorts.
Bargeron shared some of her inspiration for her Belk line adding, “If you know anything about me, it’s obvious that I love color. I used vibrant prints and exotic colors that make the wearer feel like they’re slipping into something that transports them to another place.”
