Armstrong State University has been ranked #9 on the prestigious Military Times 10 Best Cybersecurity Programs list. Armstrong is the only university in Georgia included on the list.

In 2015, the National Security Agency and the U.S. Department of Homeland Security honored Armstrong as a National Center for Academic Excellence in Cyber Defense Education. Earlier this year, Armstrong ranked #4 on Military Times’ Best for Vets: Colleges list.
 
Factors in identifying the programs include the presence and number of computer science programs accredited by global accreditor ABET and Center of Academic Excellence designations given by the National Security Agency and the Department of Homeland Security. In addition, Military Times assessed the proportion of computer science and computer security degrees awarded.

Armstrong’s Center for Applied Cyber Education offers an interdisciplinary approach to cyber education. Under the auspices of the university’s Department of Computer Science and Information Technology -- in collaboration with the Department of Criminal Justice, Social and Political Science and the Cyber Forensics Division of Armstrong’s Police Department -- students learn to secure data, investigate intrusions and prosecute cyber crimes. Through the Center for Applied Cyber Education, students receive first-class instruction that prepares them to prevent and investigate cyber attacks on global networks and international systems.
 
At present, the university has a memorandum of understanding with the U.S. Army Cyber Center of Excellence at Ft. Gordon, Ga., serving as an academic partner in providing cyber education to Army Soldiers, civilians and Department of Defense contractors. Armstrong also has an Education Partnership Agreement with the Defense Cyber Crime Center and participates in the NSA Day of Cyber program, an interactive experience sponsored by the National Security Agency.
