Thursday, April 20th, 2017

Savannah State University’s 190th Commencement will be held on Saturday, May 13, at 9 a.m. in Tiger Arena. More than 350 students will graduate with associate, bachelor’s and master’s degrees during the ceremony.

The commencement speaker will be Traci Adams ’00, who graduated cum laude with a bachelor’s degree in mass communications and a minor in theater from SSU. The Savannah native found her niche in promotion in the music recording industry.

Her positions within Island Def Jam Records dispatched her around the country. In 2007, IDJ made history as having the best single week with a total of 12 records on the urban chart simultaneously. Adams is now senior vice president of promotion at Epic Records. She was one of two executives from Epic chosen for Sony’s Fast Forward Leadership Program, a weeklong studies program in London with other Sony executives from around the world.

To accommodate the large number of attendees, guests should follow posted signs to reach Tiger Arena and other destinations on campus. Additionally, each graduation candidate will receive six tickets for the ceremony in Tiger Arena to share with family and friends.

Overflow locations are Student Union ballrooms, Torian Auditorium in the Howard Jordan Building, the Chan Auditorium in Whiting Hall and room 115 in the Social Sciences Building. The ceremony will be available by webcast at each overflow location.
