Sotherly Hotels is excited to announce the newest addition to its premier collection of independent hotels, The DeSoto in historic Savannah, Ga., is nearing the end of its multimillion-dollar renovation and will officially re-emerge fully renovated from construction on August 1, 2017.

Last August, the historic hotel property, fondly nicknamed the “Empress of the South,” began its exciting transformation into one of Sotherly Hotels’ signature properties. The DeSoto will feature a number of new upgrades including fresh modern appointments to its 246 guestrooms, a rooftop pool & cabana bar, and two new chef-driven, uniquely-Savannah restaurants, the 1540 Room and Edgar’s Proof & Provision.

“Long considered a fixture in gracious service and southern hospitality here in Savannah, we’re eager to unveil the incredible amenities, features, and extraordinary guest services that will be a mainstay at The DeSoto,” said The DeSoto’s Managing Director Jeff Kmiec. “The DeSoto is an icon in the South and a source of comfort to our neighbors and visitors who have come to rely on her presence for 127 years.”

Located on the site of Gen. Oglethorpe’s Barracks, The DeSoto has been a haven for celebrities, dignitaries, authors and presidents since 1890. “When you walk through The DeSoto's doors on August 1, get ready for an experience unlike anything Savannah has to offer. Our ‘Southern Host,’ a resident expert in all things Savannah, will welcome you like a good friend with a warm hug and a cold drink,” said Kmiec.
