Greenbriar Children’s Center recently announced the appointment of their new Board of Directors officers for 2017-2018.

President Elaine Campbell will lead the 11-member board with Juanita Adams and Melissa Emery serving as the 1^st and 2^nd Vice Presidents. Dr. Clemontine F. Washington will act as secretary, and Dr. Alfred Young will fill the treasurer role.

Campbell is a Certified Public Accountant who brings more than 35 years of experience in financial management, accounting, and internal auditing to her role as President of Greenbriar’s board. She earned her Bachelor of Business Administration Degree in Accounting from Clark College, now Clark Atlanta University. She has a Master of Business Administration Degree from Savannah State University and a Master of Accounting Degree from Georgia Southern University. She is a member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants and the Georgia Society of Certified Public Accountants. Her professional memberships include the Institute of Internal Auditors, Government Finance Officers Association, Association of College and University Auditors, and the Society of Corporate Compliance and Ethics. Campbell is a Senior Leader at Savannah State University where she currently serves as the Chief Audit Officer. She is a member of Saint Paul C.M.E Church, where she serves on the Christian Youth Fellowship Ministry as well as Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Incorporated, serving as the Regional Risk Management Coordinator for the Southern region. Campbell’s additional community work includes serving as the Treasurer for the Economic Opportunity Authority of Savannah Chatham County, the Treasurer for the newly chartered Clark Atlanta University Alumni Association – Savannah Chapter and the Treasurer for the Savannah Delta Foundation.

Adams is known throughout the Savannah area and Lowcountry as a motivational and inspirational speaker. She earned her Bachelor’s Degree with honors in English from Savannah State College (now Savannah State University), and later completed graduate studies at Clark Atlanta University. Adams served 36 years as an assistant professor and Coordinator of Freshman Year Experience at Savannah State University, where she currently remains as a part-time instructor. In addition to serving as the 1^st Vice President of Greenbriar’s board, she presently sits on the Board of Directors of King-Tisdell Foundation, Inc., serves as Vice President of the Savannah Delta Foundation Inc., Board of Directors, President of the Mandingo Socio-Civil Club, member and past president of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Youth Talent Coordinator of the Black Heritage Festival Steering Committee, member of the Sol C. Johnson National Alumni Association, and member of the Savannah branch of the NAACP.

Emery earned her Bachelor of Science from Purdue University, and a Master of Business Administration from Northwestern. She began her career in marketing at Procter & Gamble and Chesebrough Pond’s. Emery and her husband, Jim, started a marketing research company called Viewfinder. She is now retired and a full-time volunteer in Savannah. Emery was the first chairman and founding member of the Savannah Choral Society, as well as founding member and chairman of the board for Savannah Friends of Music, and the Savannah Philharmonic. She is currently chairman of the Media Research Center Board of Trustees in Reston, VA. Emery is a member of Wesley Monumental United Methodist Church, where she recently retired from the choir after many years.

Dr. Washington earned her Bachelor of Science from Savannah State College, now Savannah State University, her Education Specialist degree from Georgia Southern University, and her Doctorate of Education from Nova Southeastern University. She currently is the Mayor of the City of Midway and previously served as the 12^th District President of the Georgia Municipal Association, Chairman of the Savannah State University National Alumni Association Constitution and Bylaws Committee, Senior Warden of St. Matthew’s Episcopal Church, Vice President of the Dorchester Improvement Association as well as a member of the United Way of the Coastal Empire Advisory Board and the Gamma Sigma Omega chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority  as the Financial Secretary. In 2011 Dr. Washington won the Hands On Savannah Volunteer of the Year Award.

Dr. Young is an Emeritus Professor of History at Georgia Southern University. He earned his Ph.D. in Social Sciences from the Maxwell School of Citizenship and Public Affairs, Syracuse University. Dr. Young has published a monograph, journal articles, encyclopedia entries, essays and most recently co-authored, “Africana Studies: Past, Present and Future.” His long and active career epitomizes the motto of NCBS Promoting Academic Excellence and Social Responsibility. During his tenure at GSU, he has created and served as Director of the African and African American Studies Program, and introduced the Model Organization of African Unity (now African Union) to Georgia Southern University. To facilitate the development of Africana/Black Studies at GSU, he has successfully won numerous grants and awards, including a $126,374 grant from the US Department of Education, International Studies and Foreign Language Program. From 2007 to 2010 he co-authored a NCBS Ford grant for $237,000. During the 2010 NCBS conference, Young was instrumental in instituting, along with the Community Engagement Committee, a number of community engagement projects. Young’s tenure as treasurer of NCBS, the NCBS’ budget has grown steadily and consistently due to his fiscal discipline and oversight.

In addition to the officers, the Greenbriar Board of Directors includes Elizabeth Costner, Connie Hall, Richard de Wilde, Ann Levett, Randy Houston, Keith Fletcher and Phoenicia Miracle.
