The DeSoto is pleased to introduce Savannah and her visitors to its Sotherly Host, Kolin Podell, who will serve as the official ambassador of the 127-year-old iconic hotel located at 15 E. Liberty St. in historic downtown Savannah, Ga.
“For the first time, The DeSoto’s visitors will have access to a true southern host whose sole purpose is to serve as a personal conduit to the diverse local culture and exclusive Sotherly Host experiences offered at the hotel,” said The DeSoto’s Managing Director Jeff Kmiec. “Much more than a concierge, The DeSoto’s Sotherly Host embodies all that it is we southerners do so well -- in our home, you are our guest and deserve only the warmest and most gracious hospitality.”
Podell comes to The DeSoto as its Sotherly Host with an extensive hospitality and culinary background. From a small town in Indiana, much like Savannah, Podell’s career led him to the Hostess City of the South where he most recently served in broad capacity as the general manager of a leading, historic bed & breakfast in downtown Savannah. During his tenure, he oversaw the complete guest experience from the moment visitors walked through the doors until seeing them off at the end of their visit.
“I really found a passion for providing the ultimate guest experience,” said Podell. “Every guest I welcome is my priority. From the time they arrive, my mission is to help them start exploring right away. I want our visitors to know the people who live and work here and really understand what makes this great city truly one of a kind.”
Some of the exclusive Sotherly Host experiences guests can seek out through the Sotherly Host program include Leopold’s ice cream room delivery, getting fitted for your own seersucker suit from local tailor J. Parker Ltd., personal pick up from Saturday Forsyth Farmers Market vendors, and enjoying that perfect progressive meal with locations and palate selections that fit your individual taste. And, of course, the Desoto Sotherly Host will create the most unique romantic experiences in the most beautiful city in the world for couples to experience their engagement, elopement or wedding.
“Savannah is a forward-moving, eclectic, multifaceted southern hotspot and is just begging to be explored. I love sending guests to those hidden nooks and crannies that locals love -- those are the priceless experiences our city’s guests are truly after,” said Podell.
