Students: Key to the Future and the Programs that Prepare Them June 14th

Savannah Technical College President Kathy Love and Woodville Tompkins Technical and Career High School Principal Alfred McGuire will discuss “Students: Key to the Future and the Programs that Prepare Them” at the Savannah Downtown Business Association’s Wednesday, June 14 luncheon and meeting at the Charles H. Morris Center at Trustees Garden, 10 East Broad Street at 11:30AM. Networking begins at 11AM.

The event is open to the public and the deadline to register is Friday, June 9. Cost is $25 for SDBA members, $35 for non-members and $10 for elected officials. If space permits after the deadline, cost will be $35 for SDBA members and $40 for non-members.

Serving as Savannah Technical College’s president since 2009, Dr. Love has led the college through a period of rapid growth and change. The college has experienced increased credit enrollment, enhanced and expanded academic programs. In addition, Savannah Technical College has strengthened its ties with area business and industry and reinvigorated non-credit programs for adult education. In 2013, it was named the Technical College of the Year for the State of Georgia and was a top-four finalist in 2014.

Dr. Love’s previous experience includes serving as president of Flint River Technical College, vice president of instructional and student services at Middle Georgia Technical College, vice president of administrative services at South Georgia Technical College, and as the interim president of Central Georgia Technical College. She began her career as adjunct instructor of Computer Information Systems at South Georgia Tech. Dr. Love earned her B.S. degree and M.S. in Business Administration from Georgia Southwestern State University, Doctor of Education degree from Northcentral University, and Education Specialist degree in Educational Leadership from Columbus State University.

As principal of Woodville Tompkins Technical and Career High School, McGuire is responsible for student achievement as students become prepared for post-secondary study and careers. The school has been honored several times for the academic achievement and success of its students and was recently recognized for having a 100% graduation rate, an accomplishment made by only seven schools in the state of Georgia for the 2014-2015 school year.

McGuire began his career with the Educational Talent Search program at Savannah State University, where he created a mentoring program for male students enrolled in the program. His other experience includes working in the Savannah Chatham County Public School System as an English teacher and served in other capacities including Assistant Basketball Coach and English Department Chair. He earned his B.A. degree in History from Savannah State University, Master’s degree in Middle Grades Education from Armstrong Atlantic State University and Educational Specialist Degree in Educational Leadership (K-12) from Mercer University.
