The Savannah Downtown Business Association and the City of Savannah will host Darryl Strawberry, an eight-time National Baseball League All-Star as he shares how "Decisions you make today will impact where you go tomorrow" Thursday, August 24, 7PM at The Lucas Theatre, 32 Abercorn Street. The event is open to the public and the cost is $20 for SDBA members and students and $30 for non-members. Tickets are now on sale at the box office, www.savannahboxoffice.com.

“We are thrilled to bring Mr. Strawberry to Savannah to speak to members of our business community and most importantly, our youth,” said Karen Guinn, president of the Savannah Downtown Business Association.  “Thanks to the generosity of our sponsors and the vision of our Board of Directors we have been able to donate 800 tickets to the Savannah Chatham Public School system. In addition, with the City of Savannah joining as the Presenting Sponsor, we will also be able to host the graduates of the Summer 500 program,” added Guinn.

A Los Angeles native, Strawberry had a natural, powerful swing and was taken with the number one overall pick in the 1980 amateur draft. Making his major league debut in 1981 when he was only 21 years old, he became a star for the New York Mets in the 1980s and played with the New York Yankees in the 1990s. His Major League accomplishments included four World Series Titles (New York Mets and the New York Yankees), being a National League All-Star eight times, National League Homerun leader, and more, before his substance abuse problems led to a prison sentence.

Strawberry turned his life around. Today he is an instructor, philanthropist, restaurant owner and motivational speaker.
