GDOT: Watch for SR 21 and 26 Nighttime Lane Closures this Week

Staff Report From Savannah CEO

Monday, August 21st, 2017

Road work will require lane closures next week on state Routes 26 and 21, but all work will be done overnight.

Georgia Department of Transportation contractors will restripe U.S. 80/SR 26 at the Bull River Bridge and Fort Pulaski beginning Monday. Motorists should expect brief delays from 7 p.m. to 6 a.m. Monday through Aug. 25.

Beginning Tuesday, Georgia DOT contractors will perform mill and inlay on the left turn lane of SR 21 at SR 307. Work will be done from 7 p.m. to 6 a.m. Tuesday through Aug. 25. Milling removes the top layer of asphalt to eliminate cracks, ruts and other road imperfections. A layer of inlay paving fills in any holes and levels off the road.

The schedule for both state routes is subject to change, depending on the weather.

These are work zones and motorists should use caution when approaching the areas. Message boards, barrels and/or cones will be used to alert the public of upcoming changes. Drivers should be aware that personnel and equipment will be operating close to travel lanes.
