The clinical pastoral education training program at Memorial University Medical Center was granted full accreditation by the Commission for Pastoral and Psychotherapy Training. Clinical pastoral education is specialized training for people of all faiths who want to work in the ministry of hospital chaplaincy. The 15-month program at MUMC teaches chaplains how to address the unique spiritual and religious needs of patients and families coping with a medical crisis. Accreditation from CAPPT acknowledges the strength and quality of the program.

"Seeking and achieving full accreditation was a most thorough and intense experience and the result is quality assurance and a continuing process of quality improvement for our program. Our patients, their families, and our medical team are the beneficiaries," said Brian Childs, Ph.D., director of pastoral care and training at MUMC.

A successful CAPPT accreditation assures trainees and potential employers that the training program meets the most rigorous standards of the profession.
