City to Allow Bars to Serve Alcohol on New Year’s Eve

Staff Report From Savannah CEO

Thursday, October 12th, 2017

This year’s New Year’s Eve celebration will fall on a Sunday in the 2017 calendar year. The City of Savannah will apply State Code Section 3-3-7(r) of the Official Code of Georgia Annotated, allowing bars within the Savannah city limits to serve alcohol on Sunday, December 31, 2017 between 12:30 p.m. and midnight. In addition, the City of Savannah will extend the closing time to 2 a.m. on Monday, January 1, 2018.

Recognizing that this is a change from standard operation, Savannah-Chatham Metropolitan Police will be working with bar owners to encourage prompt and voluntary compliance with the 2 a.m. sales cut-off. Police staff will be in the field on Sunday to visit open bars and remind owners of their obligation to stop serving at 2 a.m.
