Tanger Outlets and Memorial Health “Celebrating the Power of Pink”

1 p.m., Sunday October 1, 200 Tanger Outlet Blvd, Pooler

In honor of Breast Cancer Awareness Month, Tanger Outlets and Memorial Health will host a "pinking" of the fountain in the center of the Tanger Outlets shopping complex. Tanger Outlets will sell Powerful Pink Cards for $5. The card gives you a 25-percent discount off a single item at participating Tanger Outlets stores. You can use the card as many times as you'd like throughout the month of October. The Curtis and Elizabeth Anderson Cancer Institute at Memorial University Medical Center receives a portion of the funds, along with the Breast Cancer Research Foundation. Powerful Pink Cards will be sold at Shopper Services and participating stores throughout the month of October. The event is free and open to the public.

Monday Evening Prepared Childbirth Series

6 p.m. to 9 p.m. Monday, October 2, Memorial University Medical Center

This two-evening course gives an overview of reproductive anatomy and physiology and explains the process of labor and delivery in simple, easy-to-understand terms. It is designed for parents who have schedules that make it difficult to attend weekend or day classes. This class includes a tour of the labor and delivery unit. The cost is $75 per couple. Blood cancer patients and family members are welcome to join this professionally facilitated group. A diagnosis of cancer is often followed by an emotional upheaval; a support group can provide a non-judgmental, confidential and supportive setting to openly discuss feelings. This sharing of ideas and feelings serves to strengthen the connection between patients and their loved ones, thereby enhancing their ability to cope with the disease and strengthen the family unit. 2017 Patrick's Ride

7 a.m. Saturday, October 21, departing from Memorial University Medical Center

Patrick's Ride raises money to benefit children and families with cancer at the Dwaine & Cynthia Willett Children's Hospital of Savannah and the Curtis and Elizabeth Anderson Cancer Institute at Memorial University Medical Center. Participants ride from Savannah to Augusta in a single day (140-plus miles).

Basic Breastfeeding Class

This class is designed to educate and support the mother planning to breastfeed. Your support person is encouraged to attend. Topics include preparing to breastfeed, basic breastfeeding concepts, nutrition, and a discussion of common concerns. Issues such as family support for the breastfeeding mother, the father’s role in feeding, and how to breastfeed and continue to work are also covered. $20 per couple.
