Photographer Megan Myrick Honored at State, International Levels

Staff Report From Savannah CEO

Richmond Hill-based custom photographer Megan Myrick was recently honored by both the Professional Photographers of America and the Georgia Professional Photographers Association.

Myrick earned the GPPA’s first-place award in the child portrait category for her submission, “Little Patriot,” as well as the “Elliott’s First-Timer Award.” The PPA awarded Myrick with merits for two out of the four images she submitted to the entity’s International Print Competition.

Myrick’s GPPA winning images will now progress to the district level of competition, and her International Print Competition merit images will be on display at the International Photographic Exhibition at Imaging USA, an annual convention and expo for professional photographers. This time around, it runs Jan. 14-16, 2018, at the Gaylord Opryland Resort & Convention Center in Nashville, Tennessee. The winning photos are images she chose from various shoots with her local clients.

“I am unbelievably honored by my awards from both the Professional Photographers of American and the Georgia Professional Photographers Association following a rigorous judging process. So many talented photographers submitted their photos to these competitions, so its enormously rewarding to be recognized among these skilled individuals,” Myrick said. “And I must say, having the No. 1 child image in the state – in addition to knowing all of my images feature individuals from our community – is particularly rewarding!”

Both the PPA and GPPA judge competition images on the following 12 elements: impact, creativity, technical excellence, composition, lighting, style, print presentation, center of interest, subject matter, color balance, technique, and story-telling.

The PPA, a nonprofit group founded in 1869, is the largest photography association organized for and by professional photographers, with more than 29,000 members in 64 countries. The International Print Competition challenges photographers to grow their artistic and technical photography skills by creatively capturing and presenting their best images, and by doing so, improving their businesses. The competition is open to all, but also gives PPA photographers the opportunity to earn merits toward photography degrees. GPPA, an official affiliate of PPA, is a community of like-minded professionals focused on education, friendship, and networking.
