Statesboro Family YMCA Announces Opening Date

Staff Report From Savannah CEO

Tuesday, October 3rd, 2017

Statesboro is about to get healthier in mind, body and spirit. On Saturday, October 28, 2017 the Statesboro Family YMCA will open its doors at 409 Clairborne Ave. Statesboro, GA 30458. The Y will open in the renovated former Sallie Zetterower elementary school and features an 11,000 square foot wellness center with state-of-the-art cardio and strength equipment, a boxing studio, child watch and kid zone rooms for young and school-aged children, a dedicated teen room and separate studios for yoga, Pilates, dance and group exercise classes.

Joel Smoker, YMCA of Coastal Georgia’s President and CEO says he is excited to bring the Y’s mission to the community. “The Y is more than a place to work out — we’re a place of community. Of course, members will have access to new machines, our boxing studio, and group exercise classes, but there will be so much more; we’re excited to launch some of our signature Y programs in the coming months, including our community driven volunteer program Togetherhood and LIVESTRONG at the YMCA, a free program to help cancer survivors build their mental and physical strength following a diagnosis.”

The Statesboro Family YMCA is hosting an open house on Saturday, October 27, 2017 with a ribbon cutting 10 am where community members can tour the new facility, speak with staff and sign up to become a Y member. The joiner’s fee will be waived for those who join the Y during the grand opening celebration. The grand opening celebration will provide a variety of family-friendly activities such as face-painting, bouncy houses, and a “trunk or tailgate” with a community cook out. The event is free and open to the public.
