Bryan County recently received word that it is among 17 Georgia communities to be awarded Georgia Environmental Finance Authority financing totaling $79,183,000 for water, wastewater and sewer infrastructure improvements.

The Bryan County Board of Commissioners was given a $2,900,000 Georgia Fund conservation loan to finance the long-planned expansion of its wastewater treatment system to accommodate residential and industrial growth.  The loan also addresses additional infrastructure acquisition for drinking water.  Bryan County is committed to providing this service to its unincorporated customers in an efficient, cost effective, and fully self-sustaining manner; and is pleased to announce that the loan qualifies for a reduced interest rate because a portion of the project is an energy conservation activity.

“GEFA loans help local governments improve their environmental infrastructure. Financing water, wastewater, solid waste, and energy, land, and water conservation projects encourages economic growth and the stewardship of our environment,” GEFA Executive Director Kevin Clark said.

According to Bryan County Administrator Ben Taylor, the funds will prove useful in assisting with planned water and sewer improvements.

“To accommodate both residential and industrial growth, we’re aware of the need for expanding infrastructure. These plans for routine upgrades have been in the works and now, thanks to the Georgia Environmental Finance Authority, we’ll be able to continue this upswing of development without missing a beat regarding the deliverance of quality services to meet residents’ needs,” Taylor said.
