Pooler Publix Opens, Donates $150,000

Publix opened its newest area grocery store Wednesday at 101 Blue Moon Crossing in Pooler. The 46,031-square-foot store will employ approximately 100 associates.

During the ribbon-cutting celebration, Publix Super Markets Charities announced a donation of $150,000 to America’s Second Harvest of the Coastal Empire. The food bank will use the new funds to purchase an additional truck to deliver more meals through the Kids Cafe program. In Chatham County, there are more than 51,000 food-insecure citizens with 14,600 children.

Publix is privately owned and operated by its 188,000 employees, with 2016 sales of $34 billion. Currently Publix has 1,160 stores in Florida, Georgia, Alabama, Tennessee, South Carolina, North Carolina and Virginia. The company has been named one of Fortune’s “100 Best Companies to Work For in America” for 20 consecutive years.
