Representatives from The Landings Military Family Relief Fund recently donated $20,000 to the Armstrong Foundation to fund scholarships designed to help area military spouses complete college. The scholarships will primarily support military spouses attending Georgia Southern University’s Armstrong Campus in Savannah, Ga. and Liberty Campus in Hinesville, Ga.

“We deeply appreciate this generous scholarship donation, which is focused on supporting local military spouses,” said Armstrong President Jennifer L. Frum. “Military spouses deserve our support to complete their degrees and to achieve their goals.”

The Landings Military Spouse Academic Assistance Fund, which was established in 2015, provides tuition assistance to military spouses who are eligible for The Military Spouse Career Advancement Accounts (MyCAA) program, but have exhausted their benefits.

“We are grateful to The Landings Military Family Relief Fund for recognizing the sacrifice of military spouses,” said Georgia Southern University President Jaimie L. Hebert. “It is our honor to help military spouses reach their fullest potential in the classroom and in their careers.”

The Landings Military Family Relief Fund was originally founded in 2007 by Jack Munroe, a Landings resident. Since that time, the fund has assisted more than 4,000 individuals at Hunter Army Air Field in Savannah and Fort Stewart in Hinesville.

“We want to continue to support military spouses who are experiencing difficulty finishing their college degrees because of financial circumstances,” said Maj. Gen. (Ret.) John Sobke, vice chairman of The Landings Military Family Relief Fund. “Our mission is to assist military families, and this scholarship fund is an important way to help fulfill that mission.”

Both Armstrong and Georgia Southern have a long history of being military-friendly, serving active duty soldiers, veterans and their families. G.I. Jobs has honored both institutions as Military Friendly Schools. Earlier this year, Military Times ranked Armstrong #3 in the nation among four-year schools on its Best for Vets list.
