Asbury Memorial United Methodist Church recently appointed Candace Jenkins as Connectional Ministries Coordinator.

Jenkins’ responsibilities as Connectional Ministries Coordinator will include welcoming visitors and helping them connect with people and programs at the church; coordinating Asbury's Usher and Greeter Ministries; helping facilitate New Member Classes; assisting in Congregational Care Ministries, and being a point person for any inquiries about the church and/or the church’s many offerings.

Jenkins hopes to add a welcoming element to this position in the future that ensures parishioners have a true connection to the church family and everything the church has to offer.

“I will serve this position in a manner that brings people together and helps solidify that individuals truly feel like part of the church family,” Jenkins said. “I wanted to take this job because of the immense love and gratitude I have for my church home. Asbury is a welcoming, all inclusive church with a powerful and dynamic worship service that has touched people’s lives in a very meaningful way for many years. To be a part of this ministry is an honor and privilege for me as this church has taught me to appreciate the true meaning of inclusivity and differences among all of God’s people.”

Candace Jenkins earned her bachelor’s degree in English from Armstrong State University. In addition to this position with Asbury Memorial UMC, Jenkins serves as a program guide at the Massie Heritage Center. Throughout her 14 years as an Asbury Memorial UMC congregation member, she volunteered in the nursery and taught children’s church for fourth- through sixth-graders, in addition to serving on the Church Council and the Flower Ministry Team as a delivery person. Jenkins previously worked as an account executive in the sales department at WTOC-TV and WSAV-TV before serving as a substitute teacher and Administrative Assistant to the Lower School Principal at Calvary Day School.

Jenkins has joined the Asbury Memorial UMC team, which includes Rev. Billy Hester, Church Administrator Randy Canady, Office Manager Claudette DeLong, Associate Minister Jan Durham, Minister of Music Ray Ellis, Organist Kay Deffley, Youth Minister Laura Angell, Assistant Youth Director Chris Kincade, and Children & Family Ministries Director Ruthie Deffley.
