Georgia DOT has awarded 26 construction contracts for statewide transportation projects totaling $74,122,255. These projects were advertised in November and bids were received on December 15; 25 contracts were awarded on December 29 and one was awarded on January 12 to the lowest qualified bidder.
 
The Department continues to focus on deferred routine maintenance using funds resulting from Georgia’s Transportation Funding Act (TFA) of 2015. Sixty percent of the awarded funds are for resurfacing on state routes and nine percent are for bridge preservation. Roadway construction projects and safety enhancements represent 20 percent of the awarded funds and two bridge replacements are 11 percent.
 
The largest awarded construction contract is for 3.2 miles of widening and reconstruction for passing lanes on US 80/SR 26 from Amanda Road to Old Lee Field Road in Bulloch County in southeast Georgia. The $6.3 million contract includes construction of eastbound and westbound passing lanes; dedicated left and right turn lanes at several intersections to help reduce congestion; re-construction of the two existing travel lanes and the addition of outside paved shoulders. There will be no offsite detour during construction. The contractor is Reeves Construction Company of Macon, Ga. and the anticipated completion is April 30, 2019. 
 
Nine bridge contracts were awarded for the rehabilitation of 17 bridges and construction of two replacement bridges. This includes replacing a 94-year-old bridge that lacks structural integrity on SR 42 over Norfolk Southern Railway in Fulton County; and a third of a mile project in Harris County to replace a bridge, which was built in 1949 and is below current design standards, on SR 219 over Mountain Oak Creek.
 
Other awarded contracts include construction of a single lane roundabout in Effingham County; an operational improvement ramp widening to two lanes and installation of ramp meters on I-285 at SR 8/US 278 in Fulton County; and a safety installation of 42 miles of cable barriers on I-20/SR 402 in Greene, Morgan and Walton counties.

The awards bring the six-month Fiscal Year 2018 total construction contracts to $562.6 million. FY 18 began July 1.
