Staff Report From Savannah CEO

Monday, February 19th, 2018

Coastal Jazz Association, a 501c3 committed to preserving and perpetuating Jazz in Savannah is proud to announce the launch of a new membership for young professionals. Named the Coastal Jazz Jitterbugs, this group of young people will learn about Savannah’s rich jazz history and ensure Jazz continues to thrive for future generations.

Authors Wentworth and Flexner of Dictionary of American Slang describe a jitterbug as  “one who, though not a musician, enthusiastically likes or understands jazz music or a jazz fan.” Jitterbug members will enjoy free quarterly fun and educational events from swing dance lessons to jazz jam sessions featuring Savannah’s legendary musicians and up and coming artists alike. Jitterbug members are invited to attend September’s 37th annual Savannah Jazz Festival Blue’s Night with VIP perks in Forsyth Park and are able to attend 6 free Coastal Jazz Sunday concerts a year at The Ben Tucker Pavilion at The Westin Savannah Harbor Golf Resort and Spa.

Jitterbug memberships are $35 a year for young professionals ages 21-35 who have an admiration for jazz music and interested in learning more about America’s indigenous art form of music.

The Jitterbug’s first event will take place on Thursday, April 19 at The Coastal Heritage Society from 5:30 - 7:00 PM. Attendees will learn about Savannah’s jazz history and genres, play jazz trivia for great prizes, and enjoy complementary cocktails and appetizers! This event will serve as a membership drive and is free to anyone interested in learning more about Coastal Jazz Association and joining the Jitterbugs!
