Public Service Commissioner Stan Wise chaired his final Commission Administrative Session prior to stepping down from the Commission after nearly 24 years of service. He has served as Chairman since January 1, 2017.
 
In his departing remarks, Wise praised his Commission colleagues. “This Commission is the very best, they know the issues and I salute my colleagues for what they’ve done. We’ve left this state better than we found it,” said Wise. He noted that he has served with 11 different Commissioners during his tenue on the Commission.
 
He also commended the Commission staff for their persistence and knowledge. “You work long hours and you are the very best,” said Wise.
 
Wise was first elected to the Commission in 1994, and subsequently re-elected in 2000, 2006 and 2012. Prior to serving on the Commission, Wise served on the Cobb County Commission from 1990-92. He also represented Cobb County on the Atlanta Regional Commission and served six years in the U.S. Air Force Reserve.
 
Under state law (O.C.G.A § 46-2-4) Governor Nathan Deal will appoint a successor to Commissioner Wise. The new Commissioner must stand for election in November for a full six-year term.
