Thursday, February 8th, 2018

City of Savannah Development Services Director, Julie McLean, was named one of 100 Influential Women to Know in the fields of engineering, architecture and construction by Engineering Georgia.

As Director of the Department of Development Services, McLean oversees the permitting and inspection services for new construction within the city limits. This involves plan review by city infrastructure departments and zoning compliance.

McLean was named the 2017 Engineer of the Year in Government by the Georgia Society of Professional Engineers. In 2002, McLean was the first female certified professional engineer ever hired by the City and became the first woman to be named City Engineer in 2012. She has 30 years of experience, during which she has managed projects totaling more than $50 million and overseen permitting and inspection for projects totaling over $2 billion.

While McLean is the first professional engineer (P.E.) hired by the City, the City has employed female engineers for decades; including the first African-American female engineer, Alderwoman Dr. Estella Shabazz.
