Georgia Tech-Savannah to Offer Free Occupational Safety and Health Association Seminars

Georgia Tech-Savannah, an OSHA Authorized Training Institute Education Center, is pleased to announce it will host a series of occupational safety and health training seminars free of charge. Health Hazard Awareness (OSHA 7205), Bloodborne Pathogen Exposure Control for Healthcare Facilities (OSHA 7200), and Introduction to OSHA for Small Businesses (OSHA 7510) will all be offered on the Savannah campus at 210 Technology Circle starting February 27-March 1.
 
“Georgia Tech-Savannah provides occupational safety and health education for top industry professionals with the goal of keeping those in our region current on updates to OSHA standards and safety practices,” said Diane Lee, director of Georgia Tech-Savannah. “These free OSHA courses are applicable across industries and teach participants the basics of OSHA compliance to keep their businesses, employees, and customers safe.”

OSHA 7205: Health Hazard Awareness

8:00 a.m. - 4:00 p.m.
The goal of this course is to assist participants with recognizing potential health hazards in the workplace, and avoiding, minimizing, controlling or eliminating them whenever possible. Exposure to health hazards continues to be common in spite of advances in control measures and techniques. OSHA’s current strategic plan has made a reduction in some specific health hazards such as lead, silica, and ergonomic related a high priority. This course will provide information on the types of health hazards and discuss ways to recognize, evaluate, and control them in the workplace.

OSHA 7200: Bloodborne Pathogens Exposure Plan for Healthcare Facilities

8:00 a.m. - 4:00 p.m.
This purpose of this course is to develop a Bloodborne Pathogens exposure plan for healthcare facilities using a step-by-step approach. Featured topics include the following: introduction to the Bloodborne Pathogens standard, the exposure control plan, exposure determination, methods of control, vaccinations and evaluations, training and information, and recordkeeping.
 
OSHA 7510- Introduction to OSHA for Small Businesses
Thursday, March 1, 2017
8:00 a.m. - 4:00 p.m.
Participants will gain an understanding of OSHA operations and procedures and learn how to work with OSHA to prevent or reduce injuries and illnesses in the workplace. Included in the course is information on the background of OSHA standards, the inspection process, implementing a safety and health program and assistance available to small businesses.
 
These courses are designed for those who are new to or are continuing to build their knowledge of the safety and health industry, serving on a safety committee, a human resource professional, or a supervisor for safety and health protocols. Participants will learn the building blocks of all other safety and health related courses, complying with OSHA standards.
