Downtown Garden Club of Savannah Donates $19,800 to Tiny House Project

Staff Report From Savannah CEO

Monday, April 16th, 2018

The Downtown Garden Club of Savannah presented a donation in the amount of $19,800 to Cindy Kelley, Executive Director of the Chatham-Savannah Authority for the Homeless for the Tiny House Project (Cove at Dundee) at the Club’s April meeting held earlier this week. The monies will be used to fund up to eight Tiny Houses as well as to provide landscaping and beautification once the homes are built.

The funds were raised through the Club’s fundraiser, Herbilicious held earlier in 2018 featuring a talk by Jason Restivo of Atlantic, a Neighborhood Eatery as well as one of Savannah’s most beloved Executive Chefs, Lauren Teague. A silent auction and raffle were also part of the event that raised nearly $20,000.

Lead by President Carolyn Neely and Fundraising Chair Karen Washburn, the Club decided to take a different and more meaningful approach to special projects this year. The Tiny House Project was exclusively selected as this year’s fundraising beneficiary recognizing the urgent need in our community for affordable housing.

The Club has also been working closely with Park Place Outreach this year, helping to spruce up the yard and garden area around the home. Members worked together with Park Place residents to plant vegetables that will soon be able to be part of daily meals.
