The Flannery O’Connor Childhood Home is pleased to present “Southern Discomfort 2018: Art Inspired by Flannery O'Connor” on Friday, May 18 from 5-8 p.m. at Location Gallery, 417 Whitaker St. This biennial group exhibition will include a reception and silent auction, featuring original art by more than 20 local artists. The event is free and open to the public.

“Southern Discomfort” showcases art inspired by Savannah native and National Book Award winner Flannery O’Connor, one of the South’s greatest authors. Proceeds from the show will benefit local artists as well as programming and outreach initiatives at the Flannery O’Connor Childhood Home, a literary treasure nestled in the heart of Savannah’s National Historic Landmark District on Lafayette Square.

This year’s exhibit – which serves as a follow-up to successful art shows at Nonfiction Gallery in 2016, ThincSavannah in 2014 and 1704Lincoln Gallery in 2012 – has been organized by Flannery O’Connor Childhood Home board members Meredith Gray and Michael Schroeder and Location Gallery Director Peter Roberts. A wide range of media will be on display, from oil paintings and charcoal and pencil drawings to photography, encaustics and mixed media work.

“‘Southern Discomfort’ brings together a wide variety of local artists to celebrate one of America’s finest authors, who was born and raised right here in Savannah,” said Michael Schroeder, vice president of the board of directors for the Flannery O’Connor Childhood Home. “We welcome everyone to see this exciting exhibit in person and to help support a great cause in our community.”

More than 20 recognized Savannah artists will participate in “Southern Discomfort,” including Stacie Albano, Carmela Aliffi, Jason Armstrong Beck, Anna Bliss, Angela Burson, Betsy Cain, Julia Christian, Joy Dunigan, Megan Garrison, Tamara Garvey, Meredith Gray, Chela Gutierrez, Mary Hartman, Rob Hessler, Farnaz Jahani, Bert John, Geoff L. Johnson, Panhandle Slim, AJ Perez, Peter Roberts, Alexandro Santana, Christine Sajecki and Tim Taylor.
