Each year, The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society recognizes and celebrates the outstanding contributions of individuals, corporations, and organizations for their achievements in helping position LLS as the world’s largest voluntary health agency dedicated to blood cancers through its National Recognition & Awards Program. The Savannah office of LLS has announced Marcia Banes recipient of the 2018 Chairman’s Special Recognition Award which was presented by Lauren Mathews in Savannah on May 24th.

The Chairman’s Special Recognition Award honors an individual who is deserving of recognition for his/her outstanding commitment to an event or program that has resulted in an increased public awareness of LLS and its mission.

Savannah resident, Banes, got involved with LLS as one of the two creators of The Original Savannah Lip Sync Battle Competition, a celebratory fundraiser for the Light the Night Campaign. Lauren Mathews, event co-creator, nominated Banes for the award.

When Banes found out she was the recipient of the Chairman’s Special Recognition Award, she was thrilled. “To be nominated by my co-creator and teammate, Lauren Mathews, means as much to me as actually receiving the award itself. The Savannah Lip Sync Battle is a labor of love for both of us that we are planning to continue to grow for many years. I am very thankful for this recognition and the awareness our event brings to the LLS organization" stated Banes.

According to Jennie Brewster, LLS’s Area Director for Savannah and Augusta, “volunteers like Marcia make a significant impact by selflessly dedicating their time and talent to achieve our mission, to cure blood cancer and improve the quality of life of patients and their families.”
