Neighborhood Leadership Academy at Savannah State University Recruiting

Staff Report From Savannah CEO

Tuesday, July 24th, 2018

Do you want to learn more about our community while sharpening your leadership and advocacy skills? If so, consider joining Step Up Savannah this fall for the Neighborhood Leadership Academy at Savannah State University.

NLA brings together leaders from diverse segments of the community to enhance their leadership skills with a focus on advocacy, critical thinking, and problem-solving skills.

And recruitment has begun! Step Up Savannah is looking for interested emerging and established leaders in Savannah/Chatham County— ages 21 and older – to participate in this 12-week leadership course, beginning in September.

The syllabus and approach have changed as training facilitators have learned from each new group of participants, evolving in response to critical evaluation and participants’ feedback. This organic approach to leadership training keeps Step Up’s approach fresh even as it draws heavily from a range of well-established tools and critical thinkers in the field.

Upon completion of this free 12-session course, graduates will be prepared to strengthen the positions of those who are underserved or unrepresented in the community and will be asked to serve as resources to Step Up and other community organizations. Selected participants will attend Monday evening sessions taught by community leaders and experts. A small stipend will be offered to those who attend all sessions.

Interested applicants must submit an application and be interviewed for the program. Completed applications are due to Step Up by July 27th.

This program is held in partnership with Savannah State University and the City of Savannah. The Neighborhood Leadership Academy is made possible by a grant from the Charles A. Frueauff Foundation.
