On Tuesday, July 17, 2018, the Coastal Georgia Council Boy Scouts of America presented Mr. George Ginter with his Veterans Award for 75 years of membership in the Boy Scouts of America. George joined the Boy Scouts on February 19, 1943, receiving his Eagle Scout Rank and Bronze Palm in 1946, Gold and Silver Palm in 1947, and Wood Badge in 1962.   Over the years, he has served in many volunteer positions, including Scout Master, Explorer Post advisor, District Committee Member, and Council Commissioner.  Mr. Ginter remains active in Scouting today, currently serving as a Member at Large for the Coastal Georgia Council.

While serving in the US Army for 24 ½ years,  he continued his membership, serving the Boy Scouts overseas as Neighborhood Commissioner in the Canal Zone from 1964 -1967 and as a Ft. Bragg, N. C. Member at Large from 1967 – 1968.  George has traveled the world as a Boy Scout, visiting Boy Scout councils in Thailand, Korea, Japan and Holland.  He served on the Boy Scouts’ National Jamboree staff in 1989, and attended the National Jamboree in 1993 and 1997, as well as the 13th World Jamboree in Japan in 1971.

A resident of Liberty County, Mr. Ginter has received numerous awards and honors over the past 75 years. He has been a member of the Order of the Arrow since 1946 and was awarded the Silver Beaver in 1962 and the Vigil Honor Order of The Arrow in 1979.  As past Organizer and Advisor for the Canoochee Chapter of the Order of the Arrow, he received their Founder’s Award  in 1998. George recalls with pride how Scouting has given him “character building, leadership development, citizen training, a love for the outdoors and many skills. Even after 75 years, George says "I have felt that I won't live long enough to pay back to Scouting what I have gotten out of it, and I have enjoyed every minute of it!"  Coastal Georgia Council Scout Executive, Clif Morris added, “Likewise, we could never repay George for all he has done for Boy Scouts of America.”  To arrange an interview with Mr. Ginter, call the Coastal Georgia Council, Boy Scouts of America at 912-927-7272 and leave a message for Barbara Foley.
