Sorry Charlie’s Oyster Bar to Go Plastic Free

Staff Report From Savannah CEO

Wednesday, August 1st, 2018

Environmental awareness and conservation are more prominent causes than ever in our society. Restaurants around the country are stepping up to do their part and evaluate the material used in their dining supplies.

Sorry Charlie’s Oyster Bar is joining the charge in ending the use of non-compostable plastics. The Savannah seafood restaurant has already begun taking steps to using more environmentally-friendly to-go materials. In a town renowned for its “to-go cup” policy, this is especially commendable.

For the last few months, Sorry Charlie’s has been phasing out its remaining inventory of plastic straws and cups. The plastic cups are being replaced with a corn-based plastic cup that is biodegradable and compostable. Plastic straws and stir sticks are being replaced with paper-based products and styrofoam containers have been replaced with paper-based containers.

According to Sorry Charlie’s GM Mike Kent, “Our goal and priority is to be plastic-free by September 1, 2018. There are just too many options out there that we can use instead of plastic, and they are as cost-effective. It just makes sense.”
