AT&T Fixed Wireless Internet1 for rural and underserved locations is now available to residents and small businesses in parts of Wayne County, including parts of Jesup.

This rollout, now in 18 states, began in 2017. The company now offers Fixed Wireless Internet to over 440,000 locations across 18 states with plans to provide access to over 1.1 million locations by the end of 2020.

“Rural Georgia is an incredible place to raise a family and run a business,” said Georgia State Senator Blake Tillery. “We must have a 21st Century infrastructure to keep it that way. Access to the internet is our generation’s equivalent to last century’s access to electricity. High speed internet is the great equalizer for rural/urban inequities of growth, jobs and education. I applaud AT&T for their continued work to enhance high-speed connectivity for residents and businesses in rural Georgia, and we know this is just the first step of many.”

“This is a great day in Wayne County,” said Georgia State Representative Bill Werkheiser. “In today’s world, high-speed connectivity is important, and I’m excited to see the private sector continuing to bring enhanced connectivity to our rural Georgia communities.”

Fixed Wireless Internet service delivers an internet connection with download speeds of at least 10Mbps and upload speeds of at least 1Mbps. The connection comes from a wireless tower to a fixed antenna on a customer’s home or business. This is an efficient way to deliver high-quality, high-speed Internet to customers living in underserved rural areas.

More than 27,000 customer locations in the following 46 Georgia Counties are now eligible for AT&T Fixed Wireless Internet: Appling, Baker, Bleckley, Burke, Butts, Carroll, Chattahoochee, Cook, Crisp, Decatur, Dodge, Echols, Elbert, Emanuel, Evans, Fulton, Grady, Greene, Hancock, Haralson, Jasper, Jeff Davis, Jefferson, Jenkins, Johnson, Lamar, Lanier, Laurens, Lee, Lowndes, McDuffie, Miller, Mitchell, Monroe, Morgan, Pierce, Pike, Sumter, Thomas, Toombs, Twiggs, Ware, Warren, Washington, Wayne and Worth.

The towers used to provide this service are connected to AT&T’s network using AT&T fiber optics.  AT&T has nearly 4.7 million strand miles of AT&T fiber optics covering Georgia, which enables the company to offer a wide variety of products and services delivering the high-speed connectivity Georgia businesses and residents need.

“I am thankful for the leadership of our elected officials who work to ensure a pro-consumer business environment and am delighted the rural residents and small business owners have access to this innovative technology in parts of Wayne County,” said Deena Bennett, Executive Director of the Wayne County Chamber of Commerce.

“AT&T is proud to work with our local, state and federal leadership to provide the connectivity Georgia’s residents and businesses demand,” said AT&T Georgia Regional Director of External Affairs Gary Sanchez. “Through this new AT&T service, we are helping close the remaining connectivity gap in our state.”
