United Way of the Coastal Empire – Effingham County, in partnership with America’s Second Harvest of Coastal Georgia, hosted a Mobile Food Pantry to provide supplemental food to Effingham families who struggle to make tough choices between buying food and paying for other necessities. More than 250 local families showed up at the Effingham County Recreation Department and received a bag full easily prepared meal items, fresh produce, meat, and bakery items

“Good nutrition is essential to our local families’ well-being. We want to make sure that local families who experience financial hardship this time of year as budgets are stretched with the start of school have healthy food for wholesome meals,” said Elise Zielicke, Area Director of United Way of the Coastal Empire, Effingham County office.

The food from the Mobile Food Pantry is free but picture identification showing Effingham County residency is required.  The Mobile Food Pantry in Effingham County takes place up to twice a year.

United Way is proud to partner with America’s Second Harvest of Coastal Georgia to provide this valuable service to the community. United Way also thanks the employees of Perdue Chicken who volunteered their time during the mobile food pantry pick-up.
