Staff Report From Savannah CEO

Friday, September 28th, 2018

Savannah City Council approved the purchase of cyber- security services to enhance protection against potential future cyber-attacks. The additional services purchased provide multiple layers of solutions that will allow for more effective protection of the City’s network.

Expanded services include:

  • Advanced web traffic monitoring and automated intrusion response

  • Forensic tools to track the source and spread of malicious activity

  • Secure off-site data back-up

“There is no one solution or product that will provide 100% security protection, therefore multiple solutions must be employed to provide a robust security platform,” said Information Technology Director Cam Mathis. “In this current landscape of ever-changing threats and vectors, it is imperative to employ multiple solutions that will provide “layers” of protection to increase likelihood of preventing successful attacks.”

Constant review and evaluation of the enhancements is scheduled to ensure the expanded services remain up to date and effective for the evolving world of cyber threats. The new cyber-security services is part of the City’s Savannah Forward strategic plan #GoodGovernment
