Historic Savannah Foundation Declines Participation in Tour of Homes

Staff Report From Savannah CEO

After more than 40 years, Historic Savannah Foundation is discontinuing its connection with the Savannah Tour of Homes & Gardens.  The HSF Board of Trustees gave serious consideration to the decision and elected to decline the offer from Christ Church Anglican to help produce the Tour in the spring of 2019.  HSF’s leadership agrees that the organization’s attention and energy would be better placed on other fundraising and programming efforts, but HSF will continue to host the Wine Tasting & Historic Home Tour in May (Preservation Month) and other events such as the annual Gala in October and the Race for Preservation in February.  HSF is proud of its association with the Tour and appreciates the revenue it generated to help advance HSF’s mission of saving buildings, places, and stories that define Savannah’s past, present, and future.

“We assessed our relationship with the Tour and determined that HSF would be better served by focusing resources on events under our direct control.  Nonetheless, we wish continued success for the Tour of Homes & Gardens.”  said Daniel Carey, HSF President and CEO.

Following HSF’s formation in 1955, the nonprofit organization started a Revolving Fund to save endangered historic properties, now totaling nearly 370 buildings throughout several of Savannah’s historic districts. HSF is committed to continuing to build capacity within HSF’s operations, secure new financial resources, improve HSF’s image and visibility, and increase public policy efforts to protect Savannah’s historic districts.
