Savannah Technical College was recently recognized by the Technical College System of Georgia for having the valedictorian GED student in the state of Georgia and highest annual enrollment increase in FY2018.

STC Adult Education student Kathryn Rose Thompson was awarded as the Valedictorian for the state of Georgia. She had the highest GED test scores of any student in Georgia. Thompson is currently enrolled at the University of South Carolina at Buford, S.C. She is accompanied by her father and her instructor.

“It was a pleasure having Ms. Thompson as a student,” said Bernard Gouck, Savannah Technical College Adult Education Instructor. “She came in with the mindset of knowing what she needed and achieving it. I am proud of her accomplishment and know that she will be successful in whatever career she chooses.”

STC’s Adult Education program received an award from TCSG for the highest increase in enrollment for a large program in Georgia during FY2018 (July 1, 2017 – June 30, 2018). STC’s Adult Education (GED-Prep) and English as a Second Language program served 2,330 students in FY2018. This is a 29% increase from serving 1,800 students in FY2017 (July 1, 2016 – June 30, 2017). During this same period of time, the overall adult education enrollment in the state of Georgia declined 2.2%.

“These awards recognize the collective excellence of our entire adult education team,” said STC’s Vice President for Adult Education Dr. Brent A. Stubbs. “I am very proud of our team’s commitment to access through our enrollment results and commitment to excellence through each individual student experience.”
