Chatham Emergency Services recently announced the donation of two automated external defibrillators and wall boxes to St. Peter the Apostle School and Parish Center. St. Peter the Apostle’s pastor approached Chatham Emergency Services CEO Chuck Kearns in regards to the need for church ushers to be trained in hands-only CPR and on how to use AED devices.

CES responded by not only setting up training at no cost to the church, but by also purchasing multiple devices needed on site. The Islands Council of the Knights of Columbus’ members installed the wall mount boxes and were trained on how to use the devices.  In addition to training, they were also introduced to the PulsePoint App. PulsePoint is a free smartphone application that notifies any CPR-certified responder and/or civilian when someone nearby is in need of CPR, and goes as far as to provide them with a photo and location of the nearest AED.

In regards to the donation and training, Kearns noted, “We are a community based organization and honored to assist area organizations that are actively seeking the tools and information needed to further protect their members.”
