Staff Report From Savannah CEO

The Savannah Classical Academy reports more good news as the Savannah-Chatham County Public Schools unveils its new Georgia Kindergarten Inventory of Developing Skills assessment for 2018.   This measurement tool was introduced in the School Year 2008-9 and evaluates the percentage of students who have mastered all key skill sets deemed necessary to successfully enter kindergarten, first, and second grade and focused on personal and social development.

In the 2018 report, SCA ranks number five among the 34 Kindergarten programs in SCCPSS and also ranks as the highest performing charter school in the district with 94% of all SCA kindergarten students achieving these criteria.  The average score in the State of Georgia is 82.3% and our district’s goal is to improve the GKIDS Personal and Social Development rating from a SY 2017-18 baseline score of 83% to 84% or higher by the end of SY 2019-2020. For the last two school years, SCA has greatly exceeded the District’s 2020 Goal of 84% on this measure.

Mr. Barry Lollis, Interim Director of SCA, said “We are delighted to report these achievements as the GKIDS assessment reflects whole child development which is vital to fulfilling the mission of SCA.  We continue to build a quality education for our students as we progress through this school year and beyond.”

SCA, which is open to all students residing in Chatham County, is funded by the public education system but retains a charter that allows it to operate autonomously under a board of parents and community members. SCA will be serving Kindergarten to Grade 11 for the 2018-2019 school year and is expanding every year to develop into a K-12 school.
