Asbury Memorial UMC Prepares for 2018 Pecan and Honey Harvest November 17th

Staff Report From Savannah CEO

Asbury Memorial United Methodist Church is slated to host its fifth annual Pecan and Honey Harvest from 10 a.m.-3 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 17, 2018 on Madison Square, at Bull and Macon streets.

This popular annual event began with the donation of South Georgia pecans from a church member and has grown every year. The Pecan and Honey Harvest includes a general store for the sale of shelled pecans, fresh baked pecan-themed desserts and candy, beverages and local honey as well as live entertainment and a café. The harvest is made possible by a team of helpful volunteers at Asbury Memorial – including committee chair Bill Jahn – who are dedicating their time and talent to the event, as they have in years past.

Held the weekend before Thanksgiving in downtown Savannah, the event is a perfect opportunity to stock up on desserts and goodies to share with friends and family this holiday season. Also, with the Madison Square location being a convenient Old Savannah Tours stop, Savannah visitors can find some Southern sweets for the folks back home. Old Savannah Tours will share information about the Pecan and Honey Harvest with trolley riders on the day of the event and encourage people to hop off at Madison Square, take a break, and enjoy the Harvest.

As a special addition, this year’s event will include musical entertainment with Polyphonic 3 kicking things off, followed by Savannah’s ‘World Famous Crabettes’ and wrapping up with MidLife Crisis of Statesboro.

“The Pecan and Honey Harvest is always a special opportunity for Asbury Memorial to connect with our community, so we are looking forward to sharing this experience for the fifth time this year,” said Asbury Memorial UMC Rev. Billy Hester. “This event wouldn’t be possible without the support of our congregation, so we can’t thank them enough for their dedication and hard work. We look forward to another successful event!”

Asbury Memorial’s famous clown dolls will be on display and available for $35 each. The dolls, which are sold around the world, are made by Asbury Memorial’s “Busy Bees” group and were originally made for fellowship, but later helped keep the church running with the profits made. The honey is harvested from the hives of Asbury’s “heavenly” bees, who invaded the church in 2011, and will be available at $10 for 16 ounces.
