Chatham County Sheriff John T. Wilcher and Sheriff Office command staff members Chief Deputy Billy Freeman, Commander Brian Counihan and Director Todd Freesemann collectively donated $10,500 of their own money to the 200 Club of the Coastal Empire on Tuesday, Jan. 15.

Mark Dana, president of the 200 Club, accepted the checks on behalf of the organization whose principal objective is to provide immediate financial assistance to the surviving spouse and children of local first responders who lose their lives in the line-of-duty while protecting their communities.

“The 200 Club, in my opinion, is one of the most important organizations in our community,” said Wilcher. “Every cent that you donate goes towards immediately helping the families of fallen first responders and I truly feel it is our responsibility to ensure that these families are taken care of as they struggle with a tremendous sacrifice.”
