George Saunders, winner of the 2017 Man Booker prize for his first novel, a New York Times #1 Bestseller, Lincoln in the Bardo, will present the Opening Address on Thursday, February 14, with his debut novelist wife, Paula Saunders. George is the author of nine books, including Tenth of December, an essay collection which was a finalist for the National Book Award and won the inaugural Folio Prize. He has received MacArthur and Guggenheim fellowships and the PEN/Malamud Prize for excellence in the short story. His newest book, Fox 8, will be published in November. Paula Saunders published her debut novel, A Distance Home, this summer. They will be discussing their writing lives, processes and inspirations.

Daniel Krauthammer will present the Keynote Address on Friday, February 15, to discuss the last work of his father, Charles Krauthammer, The Point of it All: A Lifetime of Great Loves and Endeavors. The book explores Charles’ notable writings and speeches from his 30 years as a national columnist and philosopher, covering topics like politics, popular culture, medicine, and human nature before he died in June at the age of 68. The collection, which Charles was working on before he passed away and was edited by Daniel, also includes a deeply personal section on family, living with disability and dying, as well as Daniel’s eulogy for his father. Daniel is a syndicated columnist and political commentator whose writings appear in The Weekly Standard, New Republic and The National Review with a focus on economics, foreign affairs and finance.
