Savannah State Alumnus Receives Industry Award

Savannah State University (SSU) alumnus Henry D. Williams, III, was named a 2019 New Face of Civil Engineering by American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE). Williams graduated with a bachelor’s degree in civil engineering technology from Savannah State in December 2018. A native of Stone Mountain, Ga., Williams currently works as an engineering inspector in Savannah.

While at SSU, Williams was president of Savannah State University’s ASCE Student Chapter and was on the Concrete Canoe competition team during the first year the chapter participated. Williams was also awarded the 2019 Engineering Technology Student of the year for the state of Georgia by the American Council of Engineering Companies of Georgia.

ASCE annually recognizes 10 civil engineering students who represent the future of the profession. The 2019 honorees are rising stars, inspired and inspiring, many of them drawn to the profession by a desire to help others and protect the planet. Williams focused on the impact of recycling versus landfill use in the Savannah area.
