Savannah Ballet Theatre Invites Community High Schoolers to Audition – May 4th

Staff Report From Savannah CEO

Friday, May 3rd, 2019

The Savannah Ballet Theatre (SBT) is slated to hold Company II (High School) Auditions at 10 a.m. Saturday, May 4 at the studio, 115 Charlotte Road on Whitemarsh. These auditions will provide students with the chance to perform and train alongside the Professional Company members for the exciting 2019-2020 season.

SBT’s repertory includes classical full-length ballets and exciting original productions. Dancers in high school (grades 9-12) in intermediate or advanced level ballet classes are eligible to audition. Dancers from all studios are welcome, and they are not required to attend Savannah Ballet School of Dance. However, dancers must commit to a full season of performances and classes taught by SBT faculty and guest teachers from all over the Southeast (September – March).

Students selected from the audition will join an elite group of dancers who are focused on technique, training, and performance, and they will have access to teachers and professional dancers who can help advance their dance careers after high school. SBT’s positive atmosphere encourages healthy habits and building a solid dance foundation.

Currently celebrating its 21st season, SBT was established in 1998 under the artistic direction of Suzanne Braddy. Recognized as the premiere dance company in Southeast Georgia, SBT is best known locally for its annual production of the perennial holiday favorite, The Nutcracker. SBT presents a full season of classical and contemporary dance and has staged productions of Giselle, Sleeping Beauty, Swan Lake, Peter Pan, The Little Mermaid, and an original adaptation based on CS Lewis’ The Lion, The Witch, and the Wardrobe. The Wizard of Oz recently brought the 2018-2019 season to a close after running Sleepy Hollow in October and The Nutcracker in December.

“Following our mission to showcase the amazing talent of Savannah Dancers, SBT wants to teach young, aspiring dancers from our community the ins-and-outs of working in a Company setting,” said SBT Advancement Director Abby McCuen. “We love watching students blossom during their training as they learn to thrive as a professional dancer.”

The audition fee is $15. Ladies should come dressed in pink tights, a solid leotard, ballet shoes, and pointe shoes, whereas gentlemen should come in black tights, a white tee shirt, and ballet shoes. Company II dancers pay a monthly fee ($100) which includes company classes, rehearsal fees, and all required production fees.
