Omega began construction on a multifamily residential development on the site of the existing Abercorn Terrace Apartments between 61st and 63rd Streets in Midtown Savannah.

Originally designed by Oscar M. Hansen, AIA and Levy & Kiley Architects, PC, and built by Span-Worrell Construction in 1947, Abercorn Terrace’s 148 apartment units were commissioned by the Federal Housing Administration as housing for Veterans after WWII. Sixty years later in 2007, the property was purchased with the intention of creating luxury condominiums, but the economic downtown halted that project. Recently, Chaucer Creek Capital has shaped a new vision for the property and selected Omega Construction, a Savannah contractor with corporate headquarters in Winston-Salem, NC, as the General Contractor for the project.

“We are excited about the opportunity to work with Chaucer Creek Capital and our design team, Hansen Architects, to bring new life to this historic property,” said Todd Mayo, Omega Construction’s Georgia Division Manager.  “With the rebirth of Habersham village and the growth in Ardsley Park, the Grove will add even more charm to this area of town.”

Located between Downtown and the Southside, The Grove at Ardsley will be equally desirable to those seeking proximity to schools and hospitals, and as well as the cultural and dining options Downtown has to offer. In addition, the Midtown location has a vibrant shopping and dining district of its own, just steps from The Grove.

The Omega team worked with Hansen Architects, P.C., a Savannah-based award-winning architectural and interior design firm, to create a phased plan to meet the needs of Chaucer Creek Capital that minimizes disruption to residents throughout the building process.  Careful planning is essential to ensure the property remains operational, safe and neat. Omega will be working in close collaboration with an experienced team of subcontractors. During the first phase, the historic 1940’s buildings will undergo interior and exterior renovations. Subsequent phases include the demolition of non-historic row houses in order to make way for new townhomes, a new leasing center, pool, and site amenities will be built for residents to take advantage of Savannah’s enjoyable climate. Once completed, the Grove at Ardsley will provide a total of 186 new and renovated apartments all within walking distance to shops, restaurants, and a grocery store and minutes from Historic Downtown Savannah.
